CLASS TYPES

UTKATASANA

Hatha Yoga

This classic style of yoga encourages a healthy mind and body through a series of dynamic stretches, asana (yoga postures) and pranayama (breathing exercises). The focus is on developing strength and flexibility, flowing from posture to posture while staying connected to your breath.

Classes start with gentle movement and a number of sun salutations to warm up, moving on to a flowing introduction to the most basic yoga postures. Each series of postures aims to make space in the body, create comfort and ease of movement, helping to develop a healthy heart rate variability. This class is great for beginners and suitable for all persons - men, women, young and old. Regular practice helps to tone muscles, improve balance, manage weight, increase flexibility and calm the mind.

Each class includes time for meditation, movement and relaxation. There will be time to stretch and always the option to rest. Students aged 13-18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

SIDDHASANA

ADHO MUKHA SVANASANA

Yin Yoga

Yin yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga with poses held for longer periods of time. This practice is designed to help you sit longer, and move more comfortably by stretching connective tissue around the joints. The poses apply moderate stress to the connective tissues of the body with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. A more meditative approach, yin aims at cultivating internal awareness.

This class is great for beginners, especially those with restricted movement, injury or reduced fitness. This passive practice is also a fantastic balance to a busy lifestyle or powerful fitness regime. It is suitable for all persons - men, women, young and old. A regular Yin practice encourages stillness to calm and balance the mind and body. It can help to reduce stress and anxiety, increase circulation, improve flexibility and joint mobility.

Y12SR - Recovery Yoga

Y12SR is a framework for integrating the wisdom of yoga and the practical tools of a 12-step program. As part of a holistic recovery program, it works in tandem with traditional treatment to address the physical, mental and spiritual disease of addiction. The program serves people recovering from all manifestations of addiction, from behavioural addictions to substance abuse – creating a safe place on the mat where trauma can be released. It also supports those who are impacted by a loved one’s addiction.

Modelled on the structure of 12-step meetings, Y12SR meetings include a group sharing circle followed or preceded by an intentional, themed yoga class. Meetings include meditation, mudra and breath work, all meetings are donation-based

If you work in a recovery environment or have your own personal journey with addiction, please feel free to give me a call to chat about my experience of yoga and recovery and ways we can work together.
