CLASS TYPES

UTKATASANA

Hatha Flow

This style of yoga encourages a healthy mind and body through a series of asana (yoga postures) and pranayama (breathing exercises). The focus is on developing strength and comfort in the body, flowing from posture to posture while staying connected to your breath. Regular practice helps to tone muscle, improve balance, manage weight, increase flexibility and calm the mind.

Classes start with gentle movement and sun salutations to warm the body, leading onto a fluid sequence of yoga postures. Each series of postures aims to make space, create comfort and encourage ease of movement. Hatha Flow classes are inclusive to all, with beginners classes especially for those new to the practice. Each class includes time for meditation, movement and relaxation. There will be time to warm up and warm down, and always the option to rest. Students aged 13-18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

SIDDHASANA

ADHO MUKHA SVANASANA

Slow Flow

Slow Flow classes are always practiced in the evening, by candle light. The intention is to totally unwind, ready for a good night's sleep. The asana sequence is simpler, with more time spent coming in and out of each pose and the opportunity to hold poses for longer.

The low lighting, slow pace and healing frequencies encourage relaxation and calm, allowing students to move more easily into rest. Guided meditation is part of every Slow Flow class and Yin yoga poses are incorporated with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. A more meditative approach, Slow Flow classes aim at cultivating internal awareness.

This passive practice is a fantastic balance to a busy lifestyle or powerful fitness regime. It is suitable for all persons - men, women, young and old. It can help to reduce stress and anxiety, improve flexibility and encourage sound sleep.

Eka Pada Rajakapotasana

Y12SR - Recovery Yoga

Y12SR is a framework for integrating the wisdom of yoga and the practical tools of a 12-step program. As part of a holistic recovery program, it works in tandem with traditional treatment to address the physical, mental and spiritual disease of addiction. The program serves people recovering from all manifestations of addiction, from behavioural addictions to substance abuse – creating a safe place on the mat where trauma can be released. It also supports those who are impacted by a loved one’s addiction.

Modelled on the structure of 12-step meetings, Y12SR meetings include a group sharing circle followed or preceded by an intentional, themed yoga class. Meetings include meditation, mudra and breath work, all meetings are donation-based.

If you work in a recovery environment or have your own personal journey with addiction, please feel free to give me a call to chat about my experience of yoga and recovery and ways we can work together.
